Articles: Interview: Jason Liebig (3/25/98)Jason Liebig is the editor on many of Marvel's X-books as well as having been the assistant editor on the Fantastic Four for the first year of volume three. This "interview" is actually taken from part of one of Marvel's online chats in America Online. I have, however, removed everything except intelligent questions relevant to this site and Jason's answers, and re-ordered it somewhat. I have not corrected spelling or grammatical mistakes in order to maintain some of the feel of a chat room.Thomkallor: Jason: how did you get your start at Marvel? J. Liebig: Thomkallor: Actually, I started here at my current job. Before that, I freelanced as a writer in NYC for a year. Before that, I worked at DC Comics for 1 1/2 years. MarvC Hank: Jason what did you write? J. Liebig: Hank: Weeell, some short story stuff for Hearst New Media and a BUNCH of toy packaging for toyBiz MarvC Hank: Jason Toy Packaging?? sounds difficult. J. Liebig: Toy Packaging is a beast unto itself. MarvC Hank: Jason seriously it doesn't sound like fun, was it very difficult? J. Liebig: Hank: Toy packaging can be fun... but at times it's like solving math puzzles. MsFantstik: Jason: who's you favorite F4 member? J. Liebig: My fave FF member is probably Ben. S Kleefeld: Jason - How much input DO you have (as opposed to Powers)? J. Liebig: Well, depends on the day Kleefeld. Powers was just gone for two weeks, so I was drunk with power (no pun). MarvC Hank: Jason how far in advance to plots/scripts get planned. J. Liebig: As far as planning, we try to have the next 12 months in our heads VERY loose. And six months on paper in some form. Gahannasrc: Jason: are there going to be any major revelations on FF in the next few months? J. Liebig: Well, as far as new things we've learned... they wouldn't be revelations if I revealed them here. MsFantstik: Is Reed's condition going to last long? J. Liebig: Fantastik: Can't say yet. S Kleefeld: Any chance the FF will get 4 Freedoms Plaza back? (Even if they don't move in) J. Liebig: No chance of Four Freedoms Plaza anytime soon. Thomkallor: Will Reed and Sue be facing any "bumps" in their relationship? J. Liebig: Thomkallor: See next week's (or is it this week's) issue. Hulkbnr: Jason are we going to see Thing turn back into Ben Grimm in ff comics. J. Liebig: Hulkbnr: Well, yes...but not for long. See it soon. FF232: Jason-do you know when Thing/She-Hulk is coming out? J. Liebig: Thing/She-Hulk has been indefinitely delayed as far as I know. S Kleefeld: Jason - Any word on the relaunch of Marvel 2-in-1? J. Liebig: Marvel 2-n-1... don't know.. I think it's a bit premature for that. RAYC163: Please publish the entire FF in a volume set of some kind.... J. Liebig: Ray: we'll be doing Essential books on the FF this year. MsFantstik: Is there any chancxe we'll see anymore F4 one-shots (Besides Thing and She-Hulk) in the future? J. Liebig: We'd love to do more FF specials.. But ONLY if they're really special. MarvC Hank: I kinda like She Hulk will she rejoin sometime? J. Liebig: She Hulk guest stars next ish. but we won't shake up the team for a LONG time if I have any say (and I do!) Hulkbnr: Ghost Rider be in ff comics to Jason. J. Liebig: Nope: No Ghostie. Hulkbnr: jason why do you have ff robit in ff comics books? J. Liebig: Hulk: Herbie just made a cameo, so far. Hulkbnr: Jason will Dr Doom2009 be back? J. Liebig: Doom 2099.. hmm, hadn't thought about it. Critic221: Could there be anybody from generation-X gueststarring in ff J. Liebig: Gen X guest stars in FF. Well, we're going to attempt to keep the X and FF worlds separate, at least for a little while. BokononAOA: Jason- any truth to the rumors that Kitty'll be hooking up with FF in some capacity? J. Liebig: At this point Kitty and the FF are only rumors. Probably won't happen. Gahannasrc: Will Kitty and Nighty and Colossus be returning to the X-Men after Excalibur is cancelled? J. Liebig: Gahan: Yes! The three classics will, indeed, return... but maybe not as you remember them. Hulkbnr: Jason how come the ff never age? J. Liebig: Well, we try not to age our characters so that they can continue to be around long after we are. S Kleefeld: Jason - Will the FF become more proactive than they've been so far? They've been mainly reacting to villains popping up. J. Liebig: S Kleefeld: More proactive.. not right away.. they're still 'dealing' with stuff. S Kleefeld: Jason - Any space stories (big epic type stuff) in the works? J. Liebig: Space stories.. in FF. I'd love to. We'll be talking to Chris about that stuff soon. MsFantstik: Jason: Are we going to see any new F4 J. Liebig: No new FF any time soon, Fantastik. Hulkbnr: Jason are you going be at any cons? J. Liebig: Hulk: I'm going to try to make it to San Diego. | ||||||
