Articles: The New Marvelution Transcript

by About.com

First, let me apologize. I was unable to attend this chat due to severe computer problems. (My entire system locked up about 15 minutes before the chat was supposed to start.) David Meddinus was called in at the last minute to assist in a local emergency. (Something about a flood or some such.) Consequently, I don't think it ended up being quite what Stew expected or hoped it would be. (That's just a guess on my part.) As I understand it, though, everyone enjoyed themselves and had a good time.

That said, here is the transcript from the New Marvelution...

-----...........................CitizenVA joined............. :)
VanPlexico: Vince!!!
Warlock: Hi CVA
CitizenVA: Howdy Van!
-----...........................MissFantastic joined............. :)
CitizenVA: Howdy Warlock!
Warlock: Evening MissF!
comicbooksADM: I'd like to take this opportunity to formally welcome everyone to "The New Marvelution" chat on Mining Co.
MissFantastic: Hello everyone!!!!
CitizenVA: Thanks.
comicbooksADM: My name is Stew, and we're all here to talk about Marvel and their new flagship titles...
VanPlexico: Avengers Assemble!
CitizenVA: Damn right!
comicbooksADM: Van Plexico is with us from the Avengers Assemble web site.
comicbooksADM: A damn fine web, I might add.
VanPlexico: muchos gracias
CitizenVA: yay Van!
comicbooksADM: Let's start out with some Avengers questions. Anyone want to kick the ball over?
VanPlexico: I suppose everyone's pleased with the current incarnation of the book?
CitizenVA: Pleased is an understatement!
Warlock: Not a lot to complain about
CitizenVA: I've never been so excited about this title, the story, the creative team...
MissFantastic: Seems to a pretty darn cool book. Even though I'm not a big Avengers fan....
comicbooksADM: Nice to see Perez back in form. And Busiek does fine work as always.
Warlock: I look forward to some of the classic Avengers villains
comicbooksADM: I have to admit a little disappointment over getting back from one dimension only to be dropped into another...
CitizenVA: True enough, but for me, the book seems more personal. That's something that the books have lacked of late.
Warlock: I miss the good old menacing Ultron
CitizenVA: Ultron is not a drunk! Gah!
Warlock: And what about the other Ultron that got shot into space? Poor schmoe needs some reorganization
CitizenVA: And having a creative team working on a title they truly love and care enough about to actually research.
CitizenVA: That speaks volumes for the staff that Marvel has been slowly reassembling. (no pun intended..)
VanPlexico: We've been having a running conversation with Kurt about the whole "alternate reality" plot kicking things off.
comicbooksADM: Enough to include every single character who was ever an Avenger...
CitizenVA: Warlock: Wasn't that just energy that shot off into space?
CitizenVA: And you still haven't gotten a straight answer!
Warlock: As I recall Ultron and his "Bride" were strapped to a space-bound rocket towards the end of Avengers WC
VanPlexico: Kurt refuses to discuss the matter until the story
VanPlexico: 'is finished.
Warlock: I've faith that Kurt can straighten the convoluted Ultron mess out, tho
CitizenVA: Agreed. Ultron is too good a villain to let languish.
VanPlexico: First let me agree with VA about the current team doing their research.
VanPlexico: KB has been diligent in digging through tons of comics and querying us about various plot points in the past.
CitizenVA: Yeah, that's one of the best things. The use of Samorybryn (forgive my spelling) in T-Bolts shows that Kurt's research payed off in his other titles.
VanPlexico: Kurt and one of our Avengers list members got into an extended debate over the handling of Ms. Marvel in AAnnual 10 and Avengers 200.
comicbooksADM: So which of Busiek's titles is better: Avengers or Iron Man? (Or T-Bolts?)
CitizenVA: And what about T-Bolts? That upstart book which I believe is definitely a flagship title.
CitizenVA: Avengers is better by far, with T-Bolts second. Iron Man (alas) a distant third.
Warlock: T-bolts is sweet... alas, I was an hour late to the comic shop and #12 had already sold out
CitizenVA: I'm glad that we had T-Bolts to tide us through the HR books.
comicbooksADM: I think T-Bolts, Deadpool, and Heroes for Hire are all surprisingly good.
VanPlexico: I think we'll look back on TBolts 1-12 as one of those great moments in comics.
VanPlexico: But I was a tiny bit let down by TBolts 12.
CitizenVA: That is a real shame Warlock, although I'm glad to report that the book sold out here as well.
CitizenVA: (I'm in Denver...)
Warlock: Well, the store promises to try to get more. I'm determined to get a copy somehow
CitizenVA: I wouldn't be surprised if it gets a second printing.
Warlock: Darn Busiek writing a book that's good AND popular!
VanPlexico: I can't really compare the three titles because T-Bolts is in such transition now.
CitizenVA: Maybe they'll turn 9-12 into a TPB?
CitizenVA: I was comparing the books on the reactions I had with A's #1 and T-Bolts #12
VanPlexico: I mean, TBolts is just at the climax of a grand story, while Avengers and IM are just getting going.
comicbooksADM: Let's get into some trouble here: What was the single worst thing about the Avengers HR series?
MissFantastic: Buseik is supposed to be writing this year's F4 Annual, that'll be cool IMO.
Warlock: Ur... were his initials RL?
CitizenVA: Hawkeye's costume?
Warlock: And I thought Kesel was writing the FF annual
VanPlexico: That it existed at all. Its very existence was a travesty and an insult.
CitizenVA: I can't wait for Avengers/Squadron Supreme
comicbooksADM: That will be a very cool book.
Warlock: Does anyone else think that the Crossing wasn't as bad as it's made out to be?
MissFantastic: Oops, my mistake.... ;)
CitizenVA: The Wonder Woman logo on Cap's mask.
Warlock: I think it was much omre interesting than HR Avengers
CitizenVA: The one-shot of the Crossing was wonderful, and really raised my hopes that the book would be good again...
VanPlexico: HR Avengers was an abomination. Liefeld took the most superficial things and made them the entire books.
VanPlexico: The Crossing, IMO, had some interesting ideas, but was handled poorly.
CitizenVA: And then Moonraker happened, and Cybermancer, and Masque, and Bug-Wasp, and Teen-Tony...
CitizenVA: Need I go on?
Warlock: Thankfully Marvel canned Rob... and despite big sales! Integrity From big M
Warlock: I'd like to see what happens with Kang now
VanPlexico: Marvel has definitely impressed me lately. And isn't that really why we're here right now?
Warlock: Esp. when he meets Iron Man agin
comicbooksADM: Still, without Liefeld's bungling, I'm not so sure we would ever have seen such talents as Busiek and Perez taking the reigns.
comicbooksADM: It was like someone needed to prove that the title could be done well.
Warlock: Alas, Marvel may not have learned well enough...
CitizenVA: The Crossing Kang will probably turn out to be yet another alternate dimension Kang (thankfully) and the real Kang will start out slow menacing Cap and then turn his attention to the entire team again...
comicbooksADM: You don't think so?
Warlock: The deal with CHAOS comics worries me...
VanPlexico: A good point, Stew, but you'd think the JLA book for DC could have shown Marvel the same thing.
comicbooksADM: Marvel never seems to learn from other's mistakes; only their own.
CitizenVA: You're correct Van. That is the reason we're here...
VanPlexico: The success of HR Avengers just showed the potential success of the characters. The current book shows the potential of the characters *done well*.
comicbooksADM: Well said!
CitizenVA: Hear Hear!
CitizenVA: Plus, I'm glad that my friend's kid wants to read Avengers.
comicbooksADM: Let's move along from Avengers a bit. Everyone seems most disappointed with Captain America. Is that the consensus here?
CitizenVA: Not at all, I'm please so far...
Warlock: I've only read ish 1... didn't seem bad, tho not on par with Waid/Garney round I
VanPlexico: I've actually enjoyed CA more than any of the other three so far, at least from a pure story standpoint.
VanPlexico: But I admit I seem to be in the minority on the Avengers List.
CitizenVA: I thought the revival of the triangular shield was interesting. I'm thinking to myself, what change in tactics will Cap have to device to compensate for not being able to sling his shield.
MissFantastic: I'm surprised at the fact that some people are disapointed with Capt, alot of people were getting their hopes up because of team the book was getting....
VanPlexico: People have found all sorts of faults with the submarine story, from a technical/realism end. But I just thought it was a grand exercise in heroic fiction.
CitizenVA: The book I'm disappointed in is FF.
Warlock: That's just weird... I know Cap used a different round Shield back in the 80s and did pretty well
Warlock: FF 1 was great; it has let me down since
comicbooksADM: Well, and of all the creative *teams*, only Waid/Garney had a previous, successful run.
CitizenVA: I thought that it was reasonable for Namor not to be able to find the shield.
comicbooksADM: All the others have something more to prove?
VanPlexico: I have little or no confidence in Scott Lobdell, and am pleased to see him go. What caused that?
MissFantastic: I luved F4 (As you can tell from my name :) ), the humor was simply fantastic!!!! :)
Warlock: I've heard varying reports about Lobdell's departure... doesn't matter much, though.
Warlock: I'm hoping for good things from CC
comicbooksADM: Rumors vary a bit, but I think Marvel's just tired of him, and Claremont wanted to try...
VanPlexico: The FF villains all sounded exactly like X-Villains, at least in names.
Warlock: Bigger, more epic, cosmic stories, for one thing
MissFantastic: If it's going to be like F4 vs. X-Men it'll definitely rock!!!!
comicbooksADM: I noticed that...
CitizenVA: CC is a promising move, that's the only reason I'm sticking with it.
Warlock: Eesh, Lobdell's villains were a bit.. funky
VanPlexico: I think Lobdell's quote in WIZARD was something like:
comicbooksADM: Early word on Claremont is pretty promising.
MissFantastic: I wasn't a big fan of Iconoclast....
Warlock: I just hope CC has enough sense to put the FF back in their TRUE home
Warlock: I mean, Pier 4 is a DUMP!
VanPlexico: "I don't want to use Galactus, Dr Doom, etc. SO I'm going to make up similar characters with different names." Jeez.
CitizenVA: I thought the characters had become charicatures of themselves in issue #2, and as for Reed speaking 'Binary' to Herbie?
Warlock: The Binary was interesting (if not realistic)
CitizenVA: Well, the T-Bolts aren't using the building anymore ;-)
MissFantastic: Isn't that the truth, Pier 4 just totally stinks....
VanPlexico: Their "true home" got blowed up reeeeal good.
Warlock: But I can't see Herbie lasting 3 minutes with Ben around!
comicbooksADM: Why was Herbie there at all? Didn't they "torch" him way back when? ;-)
MissFantastic: I can't believe they brought back Herbie!!!!
Warlock: Well, the Avengers and X-Men's homes have been toasted over the years, too
Warlock: The FF can always rebuild. They belong in a skyscraper, tho
CitizenVA: I'm sure they'll rebuild.
MissFantastic: Definitely belong in a skyscraper, not some stinkin' warehouse....
VanPlexico: Just think of what Busiek's accomplished so far: He's blown up FFPlaza, brought back Wonder Man, put Carol Danvers back in the black swimsuit, and restored Iron Man's integrity.
comicbooksADM: I will miss Alan Davis' artwork tho.
Warlock: Brought back Wonder Man...?
VanPlexico: ooops!
CitizenVA: Oops!
comicbooksADM: Oh crap.
MissFantastic: Alan Davis should've stayed....
VanPlexico: I meant Wonder Woman. He had her in an amalgam!
Warlock: Alright TALK, damnit!
Warlock: What do you know about Wonder Man!
comicbooksADM: Well, he's wonderful... :-)
Warlock: Grrrr...
comicbooksADM: And, he's a man...
VanPlexico: and he's a man.
VanPlexico: ha!
CitizenVA: I agree with you MissFantastic! Alan Davis was a refreshing pick for the art.
comicbooksADM: Jinx, buy me a coke!
Warlock: Don't change the subject! You're hiding something!!!
VanPlexico: Oh, come on. Seriously, that has to be the least surprising development of all.
MissFantastic: I don't know about LaRocca, anyone here think he's trying to be a Manga copycat?!?!
Warlock: I think LaRocca has potential
Warlock: He did really solid work on Ghost Rider, tho HR The Return was lacking
CitizenVA: I didn't think it was surprising, what I found surprising was the swiftness in which it occurred.
CitizenVA: I don't like the 'cartoony' style for FF, to me, the art should reflect the stature of the book.
VanPlexico: Sorry, we were on the FF, right?
comicbooksADM: I got lost too...
Warlock: No, we were talking about Wonder Man, I believe...
VanPlexico: I can't imagine anyone following Alan Davis. He really impressed me.
CitizenVA: Like a dog with a bone...
VanPlexico: I'd never seen his work before.
Warlock: Tho I have no problem with a slightly cartoony look for FF
Warlock: I consider it a relatively lighthearted title
comicbooksADM: Really? I remember his early stuff on Batman and the Outsiders in 1985(?).
VanPlexico: Didn't read it.
VanPlexico: But I did see him on Challengers of the Fantastic (?) Amalgam
CitizenVA: It is relatively lighthearted, but still, Paul Ryan was doing fine. He's improved the Flash...
comicbooksADM: A very nicely done book, and cheap in your back issue bargain bins.
MissFantastic: I consider F4 a fun title full of not just action, but warm-heartedness and humor....
Warlock: Ryan had his ups and downs... last few issues of FF were weak. Inking hurt it, but I think Ryan was part to blame
MissFantastic: Challengers of the Fantastic was pretty cool....
comicbooksADM: Although I thought the Super-Apes were just a little over the top.
Warlock: Challengers of the Fantastic was drawn by Tom Grummet, btw
VanPlexico: Oh.... huh.
comicbooksADM: I mean, I appreciate light-heartedness and humor, but Super-Apes?
MissFantastic: Except I'm not sure about the Silver Racer....
Warlock: No, the Super Apes didn't do much for me, either
VanPlexico: Miss F, did you like the FF during the run prior to HR?
CitizenVA: Brb... trying to talk Mone Peterson into joining us...
Warlock: I enjoyed Challs of the Fantastic cause it led me to Challs of the Unknown, a fine DC book
VanPlexico: Vince, I invited Bousquet and Harris
CitizenVA: Good, I think Mone's on his way in...
comicbooksADM: IMHO, of all the pre-HR stuff, FF was probably the least poorly done.
Warlock: Least poorly done?
MissFantastic: I didn't like HR F4 because it was just too.... I don't know....
Warlock: Er... I'm not so sure
CitizenVA: No way... that distinction goes to Avengers!
Warlock: Tom DeFalco did a few good stories, but a lot of the things he did on the book were really awful!
MissFantastic: Too dark, and just kinda pathetic IMO.
Warlock: The Alicia=Skrull storyline gets my vote for worst retcon ever
MissFantastic: I hated DeFalco, he killed off my favorite F4 member!!!!
VanPlexico: I really liked the ongoing tons of plots and subplots on the old FF. Even the romance with Christoff and Cassie.
CitizenVA: Or maybe Iron Man... although I dropped Teen Tony like a rock, so I truly can't say how bad it got. All I know, is that it was bad enough to drop.
VanPlexico: But nothing was ever resolved!
comicbooksADM: I guess I'm misspeaking. I'm talking about Jim Lee's run on FF...
Warlock: Eeesh.l.. the whole Kristoff bit was weak
MissFantastic: But luckily brought him back, except with that disgusting beard.
CitizenVA: HR FF?
Warlock: As for Lee's, I found it less than inspiring.
comicbooksADM: In comparison with Iron Boy, Capt. "No A" America, etc.
Warlock: I knew where most of the stories would go, and the dialogue was C-
MissFantastic: Jim Lee's run I liked, the 1st issue that was....
comicbooksADM: You're right. I meant HR, not pre. My bad.
Warlock: I didn't think much of Brett Booth, either... though Ron Lim was a nice choice
VanPlexico: I couldn't read any of the HR books. I thought they were all horrible, though I suppose FF was the least miserable
MissFantastic: Brett Booth was ok....
CitizenVA: I actually enjoyed Jim Lee's run. It was like the first 5 years of the book compressed into one.
MissFantastic: The most pathetic issue IMO, was #13.
comicbooksADM: There. Right. What Van said.
Warlock: Really? I liked the ish 13 stories
CitizenVA: Although a few touches I could have done without... like Sue's navel ring.
MissFantastic: Where the F4 got combined with the Wildcats.
Warlock: What really let me down was the "Industrial Revolution" x-over... complete with navel ring!
MissFantastic: I've just never liked Image....
CitizenVA: I lost interest in the #13s rather quickly.
Warlock: Image is not all bad.
VanPlexico: Vince is right, except the way I saw it was, 'Hey, Stan and Jack did these stories well--let's go back and make them too short and needlessly interrelated!"
Warlock: I agree with VanPlex
MissFantastic: Oh god, that navel ring made me wanna puke!!!!
Warlock: Iron Man HR had a good start, I thought... but it sort of weakened after that
CitizenVA: The best part of the Iron Man book IMO was the Hulk.
MissFantastic: Definitly old mean, and green!!!!
Warlock: Really? I liked the fact that the "hero" began as a self-centered jerk. A little un-formulaic; a nice change
comicbooksADM: Has anyone heard any specifics on the "new direction" Peter David is taking the Hulk this year?
VanPlexico: I love Shellhead best of all, and I saw it as just one more instance of him being handled poorly.
Warlock: Ur... Hulk doofy. And he beat Thor?
CitizenVA: Another 'new direction'?
comicbooksADM: mutter -- new direction every stinking year for Hulk -- mutter
VanPlexico: Much as I like PAD as a writer, he just can't hold my attention on a comic book for very long
CitizenVA: I thought that the whole Horseman for Apocolypse stuff was considered a new direction...
comicbooksADM: It's supposed to come together after the Abomination and the Maestro beat on him in a couple of months.
Warlock: I've read some good David stories, but HR the Return was awful. He ought to be ashamed
comicbooksADM: I really liked PAD, but the last two years of Hulk -- eww.
CitizenVA: Agreed.
CitizenVA: So why does Marvel's resurgence come on the heels of their dire financial situation?
comicbooksADM: So who didn't make the Avengers roster that should have? Or do we know for sure yet who's on the roster?
MissFantastic: A big event like Heroes Return could've been written better....
VanPlexico: No word yet. Lots of speculatoni
CitizenVA: The roster won't be revealed until March 27th.
VanPlexico: speculation
Warlock: Is it really a resurgence? I mean, the core titles are improving, but I see black days ahead for Spider-Man
comicbooksADM: Especially with Byrne.
VanPlexico: I foresee: Scarlet Witch
VanPlexico: Vision
VanPlexico: Wasp
VanPlexico: GiANT Man
CitizenVA: I don't read Spider-Man, but even I'm skeptical about that whole splitting in 4 stuff.
-----...........................KilgoreTrout joined............. :)
comicbooksADM: I'm sorry, but I no longer trust that man to make decent decisions.
VanPlexico: Maybe Ms. Marvel, by another name
VanPlexico: Hawkeye
VanPlexico: Hi Mone!
CitizenVA: Howdy Mone!
comicbooksADM: Welcome Kilgore!
Warlock: What I see as Spidey's biggest problem is stale writers and editors trying to act original. It's a pretty desperate sight
MissFantastic: Hello Kil
Warlock: Hi KT
KilgoreTrout: Hey Van, Vince!
KilgoreTrout: everyone.
VanPlexico: What do you see to be the new Avengers lineup, folks?
Warlock: I'd like to see Quasar around, just cause I like the character
KilgoreTrout: Sherman Hemsley...
Warlock: I think Busiek could do a good job with him
comicbooksADM: Cap, Wasp, Thor, Ms Marvel, Quasar, Justice, and Hawkeye
CitizenVA: My roster speculation: Scarlet Witch, Captain America, Wonder Man, Hawkeye, Thor, Wasp, GiAnt Man, Ms Marvel, and Justice
VanPlexico: Oh god, not the Sherman Hemsley thing again
-----............................MissFantastic left ............. :(
KilgoreTrout: it wasn't a bad lineup, Van
-----...........................MissFantastic joined............. :)
Warlock: What of the non-Marvel first appearance mystery member?
Warlock: I hope if they keep Scarlet they give her a decent costume...
VanPlexico: I'll try again: Cap, Wasp, Vision, SWitch, CDanvers, Pym, Wondy, Firestar
KilgoreTrout: Haven't a clue. Don't think it's going to be Firestar.
CitizenVA: Her new retro look suits me just fine.
Warlock: Perez is a fine artist but his costume design sense is hopeless!
Warlock: Really? I think it looks so... crude.
Warlock: I think the same about Davis' FF costumes
Warlock: Retro has its place, but this is the 1990s, not the 70s
MissFantastic: I like the F4 costume colors
CitizenVA: Not at all. I think it's striking. Especially with the way Perez draws her hair coming out the top of the headpiece.
KilgoreTrout: I like it on Carol, not as much on "Binary"
VanPlexico: Everyone keeps limiting the team to seven members, presumably because of the Gyrich roster thing, but I expect more, due to Perez loving to draw big casts
CitizenVA: But 70s nostalgia is 'in'!
MissFantastic: I'm actually glad they brought back blue and black (My favorite colors actually....)....
Warlock: Eesh... blue and black? Bring back the dark blue/white outfits
CitizenVA: I expect more as well, I would like to see between 10 and 14 members myself.
MissFantastic: I've never been a big fan of the dark blue/white uniforms....
MissFantastic: It's mostly pure opinion anyway....
Warlock: A lot of Marvel 70s stuff only seemed to make sense at the time cause there was a lot of acid going around! >=)
CitizenVA: That way there would be room on the roster for "My favorite Redhead from Denver!"
CitizenVA: You didn't think you'd escape the night without my mentioning that did you? ;-)
VanPlexico: Hey, Marvel did its best work in the '70s-- and I wasn't on acid, either!!
VanPlexico: Although I'll give you Starlin... :-)
CitizenVA: The 70s were indeed Marvel's heyday!
Warlock: Best work? Er... Granted, my experience is limited (being born in 78) but I look at the FF during that time as rather bleak... Spider-Man, too
MissFantastic: Marvel's best work happened in the 60's and 70's.
KilgoreTrout: Gotta agree, most of my favorite issues were from then.
Warlock: Starlin ruled, however!
Warlock: But his stuff didn't sell!
CitizenVA: Avengers Annual #7 & MTIO Annual #2.
CitizenVA: Top that!
MissFantastic: The best Reed/Doom battle ever IMO (F4 #200) happened in the late 70's.
VanPlexico: I adore Starlin, I just mean I can see him, like GMorrison, doing a lot of drugs before sitting down to work.
CitizenVA: Korvac saga...
CitizenVA: Cap's Serpent Crown saga...
VanPlexico: Three great examples
Warlock: I'll agree with FF 200, but that was one of the few decent storylines from that period
Warlock: It saddens my that Starlin has taken a job with Awesome...
VanPlexico: Even the X-Men were respectable then. They only had one title and were bi-monthly!
Warlock: Few decent FF story lines, sorry
CitizenVA: I admit, I wasn't reading FF at the time.
VanPlexico: I read FF back then, and I like Marv Wolfman's work on the book. Perez drew it, too!
CitizenVA: Wasn't Herbie around in the 70s?
Warlock: Yes, Herbie appeared around then.
Warlock: shudder
VanPlexico: If so, only briefly, after that lame cartoon show brought him in.
CitizenVA: And then they went to TT!
MissFantastic: Yup, late 70's and early 80's I believe....
comicbooksADM: Wolfman and Perez worked together on FF? I didn't know that.
CitizenVA: That cartoon show replaced the Thing with little Herbie. I think that's why I resent the character.
CitizenVA: What's the matter, couldn't the animators draw the Thing?
VanPlexico: The issues leading up to #200 had Wolfman and Perez.
Warlock: They replaced the Torch with Herbie, not the Thing
KilgoreTrout: I thought Herbie replaced the Human Torch...?
comicbooksADM: I'm gonna have to pick those up.
CitizenVA: Oh! My mistake...
VanPlexico: No, they replaced the Torch, because they were afraid kids would set themselves on fire
MissFantastic: Yup, if I'm correct, Wolfman wrote that rockin' emotional story, And Then There Was One (F4 #214).
comicbooksADM: I know I would :-)
CitizenVA: Just like that great FF tale by Byrne!
Warlock: That was a good story, too. Byrne's first FF work in there
VanPlexico: The funniest parody of the FF was what Sergio Arragones did a couple of years ago. Anyone see it?
Warlock: Sorry, missed it
CitizenVA: Uh uh...
VanPlexico: Every other page, one of them was saying, "I'm QUITTING the FANTASTIC FOUR!!!" ha ha!
Warlock: Oh, I did see a page of that in Marvel Age, tho
CitizenVA: Their roster hasn't exactly been stable over the years...
comicbooksADM: Did Evanier script that? It sounds like him!
VanPlexico: Yep
comicbooksADM: Lord, that man is funny. Actually both of them.
Warlock: I have to go soon. What aren't you telling me about Wonder Man? What don't I know
MissFantastic: I haven't seen Arragones Massacres the MU, I'll have to check that out....
comicbooksADM: At the end of Avengers #2...
MissFantastic: Has anyone here read the F4 Roast?!
KilgoreTrout: I have
VanPlexico: nope
CitizenVA: Warlock: He appeared on the last page of Avengers #2 and said "Don't worry Wanda, I'm here.." or something to that effect.
MissFantastic: That was fantastically hilarious!!!! :)
KilgoreTrout: I love the Dr. Doom bit.
CitizenVA: No on that too. When did it come out?
Warlock: Oh wow... I'll have to look more closely at that one! Wondy! Wondy!
KilgoreTrout: years ago. don't remember.
Warlock: Thanks
CitizenVA: Now READ THE BOOK!
CitizenVA: ;-)
Warlock: What was sad is that, during the DeFalco years, Reed's Dad really WAS going around in Dr. Doom's armor...
VanPlexico: I'm sure Wondy will be rehabilitated just as Tony Stark was, by the time KB is finished.
comicbooksADM: I've got it in front of me: "It's all right Wanda -- I'm here, I'm here." "S-Simon? WONDER MAN?"
VanPlexico: I mean in terms of not being a jerky character.
Warlock: I knew you couldn't kill an energy being...
CitizenVA: What a wonderful moment! I loved it!
CitizenVA: My only disappointment was that the picture caught my eye when I turned the page!
comicbooksADM: I'm gonna stop transcribing this chat in about two minutes. Does anyone have anything they want to get in under the wire?
VanPlexico: Bobby here is pointing out that Simon could turn out to be, say, Master Pandemonium's butt or something like that.
CitizenVA: I didn't realize this was being trascribed?
Warlock: Not really. Must go do stuff. Great talking with you all, hope we can do it again!
Warlock: Later!
comicbooksADM: Yeah, is that okay?
CitizenVA: Not Master Panda Bear!
MissFantastic: Well, before I go, I shall get in a plug for my F4 site....
comicbooksADM: Bye Warlock!
Warlock: www.public.iastate.edu/~mjkuhns/lock_41
VanPlexico: bye to all who are leaving
Warlock: Yeah, let's hear it for plugs!
Warlock: Bye!
-----............................Warlock left ............. :(
CitizenVA: No problem. Just caught me by surprise. I probably wouldn't have joked around so much...
MissFantastic: Come check out the F4 site that's so REVOLTIN', it's FANTASTIC!!!! My Revoltin' Development
comicbooksADM: What's the URL?
CitizenVA: I'll check it out Miss F!
VanPlexico: What happened to Sean "the avengers page is respectable" Kleefeld?
comicbooksADM: Don't know -- Never heard from him again.
-----............................MissFantastic left ............. :(
comicbooksADM: I'd really like to thank everyone for coming out tonight.
VanPlexico: thanks for inviting us, Stew
CitizenVA: My pleasure. Van told me about it.
comicbooksADM: Big round of applause for Van Plexico of the Avengers Assemble Page!
KilgoreTrout: same here.
CitizenVA: WOO HOO!!!!
VanPlexico: much appreciated.
CitizenVA: Hey, what hppened to Bousquet?
VanPlexico: These two are stragglers from the Avengers list, btw
VanPlexico: I guess he wasn't home
comicbooksADM: You are all welcome back anytime! In two weeks, I'm having a "salon" on Understanding Comics by Scott McCloud.
VanPlexico: what's that?
KilgoreTrout: hey, ex-straggler here!
comicbooksADM: Fancy word for "chat" :-)
CitizenVA: I'm actually still on the AML
CitizenVA: Thanks ADM. I'm sure Van will let me know when it is.
VanPlexico: I flipped through that book the other day, but I couldn't figure out what was the big deal about it. Other than he used to be KB's roomie at the 'cuse.
comicbooksADM: Transcript off.
